This was the background to a semi-final clash with Cork, who had also staged a surprise by dethroning Kerry in the Munster final. So with both of last years finalists eliminated the All Ireland title was up for grabs and added spice to this semi-final clash. On August 21st in Croke Park Dublin salvaged a draw thanks to a very late injury time goal from Barney Rock and one week later the Dubs and their army of fans streamed to Pirc U Chaoimhfor a replay in the summer heat. Dublin had Brian Mullins, Barney Rock and a young Joe McNally facing up to Cork stars like Jimmy Kerrigan, Dave Barry and Dinny Allen. Two matches full of drama and excitement.
