About the Author Jerzy Lukowski is Reader in Polish History at the University of Birmingham. His publications include The Partitions of Poland 1772, 1793, 1795 (1999) and The European Nobility in the Eighteenth Century (2003). Hubert Zawadzki teaches history at Abingdon School.
