Aberdeen FC 'Pittodrie Review', Season 1977/78: Aberdeen v Rangers, 26 October 1977 matchday programme — Scottish League Cup; Billy McNeill, Chic McLelland, second leg after a 6-1 defeat at Ibrox
Official matchday programme for the Scottish League Cup, third round second leg: Aberdeen v Rangers, 26 October 1977, at Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen. Official match day magazine, price 10p, kick-off 7.30pm. The Manager's Report, over Billy McNeill's signature, is unusually frank. Tonight's match follows a 6-1 defeat in the first leg at Ibrox and leaves no option but to take the game to Rangers and make every effort to retrieve the situation: 'We know full well that it is an almost impossible task, but we shall not admit to defeat until the very end of the 90 minutes.' He was proud of the way the players played at Ibrox on the Saturday and feels that had Chic McLelland not been ordered off so early in the match they might well have had at least a point to take away. 'I was most unhappy to have had 4 players booked and 1 ordered off and I can assure our fans that I shall not hesitate to reprimand any of my players who are booked needlessly.' The last two league results had been most disappointing and tonight gives the ideal opportunity to get back on the rails. Chairman R. M. Donald; vice-chairman C. Anderson; director C. B. Forbes (past chairman); manager W. McNeill; secretary I. J. Taggart. The honours panel runs to the 1976-77 League Cup. Aberdeen Football Club Ltd, Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen. Founded 1903.
