Official programme, £3.00, kick-off 7.45pm. The cover carries a 'REARRANGED MATCH' flash. **Published by the Scottish Football League, not by Aberdeen FC**, and played at Tynecastle rather than at either club's ground. 'Best of Three', by Brown McMaster, President of the Scottish Football League: this is the third time Aberdeen and Dundee United have met at this stage since the two-leg home and away format was abolished over twenty years ago. Two of those semi-finals were played at Dens Park and both were won by the club from out of town, Aberdeen, whilst Dundee United won the semi-final meeting in season 1997\/98 at tonight's venue. Dundee United had the harder route: a spirited Ross County in the second round, then a Lee Wilkie goal to separate them from John Hughes' Falkirk, and a quarter-final against Hamilton Academical that looked easy on paper — but as Craig Levein said, there is no such thing as an easy quarter-final tie, and Billy Reid's First Division leaders battled before going down to a Noel Hunt hat-trick. Aberdeen were exempt in the second round as one of Scotland's four representatives in UEFA competitions; they were drawn at Firhill against Partick Thistle, where things might have been different had Jamie Langfield not saved Mark Roberts' fourteenth-minute penalty, but goals from Derek Young and Andy Considine made them comfortable winners. In the quarter-final they beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-1 with a rare Barry Nicholson hat-trick. The winners go to Hampden Park on Sunday 16 March to meet the winners of Rangers and Heart of Midlothian. Contents include Road to the Semis (pp6-9), Aberdeen and Dundee United Pen Pics (pp19-21, 25-27), Previous Semi-Finals (p32) and Tonight's Squads (p42). Published by The Scottish Football League.
