Porterfield's column on the 2-2 Scottish Cup draw with Celtic: mixed feelings — a commendable fight back from two down, but not one of the better displays. Conditions were extremely difficult, the ground carrying a lot of frost with a white covering; in different circumstances some referees would have postponed the game, though the live television cameras and the possibility of conditions easing were factors, and he did not envy the referee having to decide at 9am. Jim Leighton slipped on the treacherous surface for the first goal, telling him afterwards there was nothing he could have done because it was a very good header. Two cracking headers by Alex McLeish produced two equally good saves; David Robertson conceded a penalty for the second. John Hewitt came on for Brian Grant at half time, and Jim Bett's penalty and an equaliser by Hewitt earned a thoroughly deserved replay. Young Paul Wright is worthy of special mention. The tie then moved on to Parkhead and another draw, goalless after 120 minutes, leaving a second replay on the Monday — 'we are as well-equipped as anyone for a marathon tie and our supporters can be assured that we have no intention of surrendering the coveted Scottish Cup'. Also, action from the 2-1 win over Dundee: Paul Wright turning to fire the Dons into the lead, substitute Brian Grant nipping in to score the second, and a Peter Weir effort ruled offside.
