Editor RAY HENNESSY sets the tie up with an editor's candour about the competition's standing: 'Though it may be the poor relation in contrast to the other major National League competitions I expect today's League Cup Final to be contested as fiercely as any other and an exciting cup tie is on the cards between two of the leading teams in the National League.' He gives the records — 'Dundalk have a fine record in the League Cup, appearing in seven finals and winning the trophy on four occasions. City on the other hand have made only one final appearance and won the trophy on that occasion' — and signs off: 'remember after today's game it's only half-time. Next Sunday the destination of this season's FAI Bord Gáis League Cup will be decided at Oriel Park.'
