Details: Carlow, gateway to the South East,is situated in the confluence of the river Barrow and its tribuatary the Burren. The smallest inland county in Ireland,it is renowned for its fertile farmland and navigable waterways. Carlow has been a frequent storm-centre in the turbulent history of Ireland and many Anglo-Norman strongholds survive there. The county, which is triangular in shape,is divided into three by the Barrow and Slaney ivers in which the angler may still find a nice salmon or trout. Being only 50 miles from Dublin ,Carlow has developed in recent years as a triving industrial centre and is also noted for the size and qualiy of its schools, now having a fine third level regional Technical College. The narrator of this one-hour programme,Emmet Bergin, has Carlow roots. One of Ireland's best known actors,he is probably most often associated with his role in the popular T.V series "Glenroe"
