From the season Dundalk won the title, and the manager's notes are by STEPHEN KENNY. He writes on the fixture pile-up created by the Setanta Cup and the coming European games — 'the challenge itself is the consistency of performance and ultimately results every 3-4 days' — and warns that the previous year's Setanta finalists Shamrock Rovers and Drogheda finished fifth and eighth because their cup runs cost them league form. He sets out the club's position with characteristic directness: 'Dundalk is still in its infancy in terms of the club's resurgence under the new ownership and the board led by Chairman Ciaran Bond. It has been well documented that it has been twelve years without a major trophy so as a club we are not in a position to prioritise competitions but to take each game on its merits and try to win each one.'

He praises the first-leg Setanta Cup win at Shamrock Rovers as 'an exceptional performance considering it was our second away game in 48 hours', singles out JOHN MOUNTNEY, DAVE McMILLAN and KURTIS BYRNE, and notes RICHIE TOWELL's penalties and 'the team's consistent ability to win games with late goals'. He welcomes RODDY COLLINS and Derry City, a club he managed himself.
