Editor Colm Murphy uses the occasion to make a proper argument for cross-border football. He regrets that 'the idea of an all-Ireland league seems to be further away from reality than ever', notes that 'the IFA are fiercely protective of their independence as can be seen by their strident opposition to a united Great Britain team at next year's Olympic Games', and then proposes a remedy: scrap the League Cup and one of the northern cups and turn the Setanta Cup into a straight knock-out for every Premier and First Division club in both jurisdictions, with a Europa League place for the winner — 'European football is the holy grail in both jurisdictions and would make the competition much more valuable.' He goes further still, imagining Welsh, Scottish and lower-league English clubs joining in: 'The red-tape can be overcome! C'mon Setanta! Help make it happen!!'
