This is the night Dundalk's extraordinary winning run came to an end — and the programme was printed before it happened. Media officer Darren Crawley writes: 'We have recovered from our European disappointment with two league wins on the bounce and extended our winning to 13 which is phenomenal. We are in great form at the moment.' Dundalk had been closing on the all-time League of Ireland record for consecutive wins; Shamrock Rovers stopped them that evening.

The editorial is also a thoughtful piece on the Dundalk-Cork City rivalry and the argument about playing styles that had spread beyond the league — it 'even made its way onto Soccer Republic and then to a lesser extent on the Champions League coverage on RTÉ'. His verdict: 'Managers have different beliefs and different ways of playing… The reality is that both of us are winning matches and that is why we are the top two. We are deservedly the top two and the battle is great for all to see.'

He notes Dundalk have already qualified for Europe again — 'it is an honour to represent Ireland' — and signs off: 'Get behind Stephen Kenny and the players to help fire us to glory.' Dundalk won the title that season.
