Harps had just missed the First Division title after winning nine and drawing one of their last ten games, then beaten Dundalk 2-0 in the play-off semi-final; the second leg at the RSC followed in seventy-two hours. The welcome page is candid about the burden of history on both sides: 'Harps have lost out on each of the previous five occasions that they have taken part in a play-off series, but Waterford United's record is also far from impressive… for one of these two teams, they will be celebrating play-off success for the first time after many disappointments.'
