Bohemians arrive as Premier Division leaders with one defeat. Editor Joe Doherty introduces new signing STUART GAULD, free at last after a long suspension, and reviews a hard fortnight — a draw with Shamrock Rovers and a 2-0 defeat by champions St Patrick's Athletic 'with a penalty awarded amidst controversial circumstances before an unlucky own goal from Conor Frawley'.

The editorial's other half is a period piece. On the proposal to move WIMBLEDON to Dublin, opposed by the whole National League: 'A certain EAMON DUNPHY says "it will happen" and it will happen sooner than later. Does Mr Dunphy know something that the rest of us don't?... Then again our Eamon doesn't care much for the National League, he views his job as best the criticiser of the Irish International Team. It would be Mr Dunphy better if he would back the National League for a change and stop worrying about some British side coming to these shores and wrecking a league that is improving in every way week by week.'

Manager CHARLIE McGEEVER's 'Touchline Talk' warns there can be no room for error at home with the gap between top and bottom closing weekly. A full 1996-97 fixture list is printed, running through to the FAI Harp Lager Cup final on 4 May.
