GAA Ulster Senior Football Championship semi-final matchday programme 2002: Armagh vs Fermanagh, St Tiernach's Park, Clones, 9 June 2002 — Armagh's All-Ireland year
Official matchday programme (Clár Oifigiúil) for the Ulster Senior Football Championship semi-final 2002: Armagh v Fermanagh, St Tiernach's Park, Clones, 9 June 2002.
Clár Oifigiúil, €2.00 / Stg £1.50, Bank of Ireland Football Championship; Rúnaí Dónall Ó Murchú. Referee Paddy Russell (Tipperary), with a Cumann na mBunscol primary schools game on the bill.
The highlight inside is Brendan McCann's (Armagh PRO) 'Armagh v Fermanagh: A Brief History' and 'Fermanagh History', running from the counties' first championship meeting at Monaghan on 22 June 1913 through the 1935 replay, Fermanagh's 1975 turnaround, the five-goal 1979 game at Davitt Park, Lurgan, Peter McGinnity's 1982 goal, and Armagh's run of wins in the late 1980s; it names Gerard Houlihan, Rory Gallagher, Barry O'Hagan, Denis Hollywood and John Grimley, and recalls that today's tie repeats the Ulster semi-final of two years earlier. A full table of every Armagh v Fermanagh Ulster championship meeting from 1913 to 2000, with scores and venues, completes the feature.
2002 was Armagh's year: they went on to win the Ulster title and, in September, the county's first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
