Details: This book is for everyone who belongs to a parish - especially for those who do not feel totally part of their parish. The parish has an important task to perform, not only for God, but also for the people of the area - God's cause and the people's cause are one. Everyone in the parish, just as much as the priest, is called to help to make the parish a better place to live in, called to build up the Kingdom of God on earth. This book does not describe parish as it is; it presents a vision of what parish might be and ought to be. It is a challenging vision, as any vision for a Christian community must be.Fr Enda Lyons is a priest of the Archdiocese of Tuam. He was ordained in Maynooth in 1958 and received a doctorate in theology in 1961, for a thesis on the Church. He taught Latin in St. Jarlath's College, Tuam, and later was a member of the founding team of the Institute of Religious Education, Mount Oliver, Dundalk, where he lectured in dogmatic theology. He now works at theology with groups at diocesan level in the west of Ireland.
