'The Special Magic Of Cup Final Day!' by Ken Robertson of the Scottish Sunday Express looks back at the first post-war final between Aberdeen and Hibernian, which could hardly have had a more dramatic start: only 80 seconds after kick-off John Cuthbertson pounced when a pass-back from Aberdeen left-back George Taylor was fumbled by goalkeeper George Johnstone. Aberdeen recovered to win 2-1 and take the trophy for the first time, the clinching goal scored by their lively South African forward Stan Williams. 'Waiting Thirty Years': the Tynecastle men last won the Scottish Cup when a dynamic Ian Crawford scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Celtic. Director Bobby Parker was club captain then but missed the game recovering from a cartilage operation - 'Hearts paid to have a replica gold medal struck for me, and I very much appreciated that gesture. I'll never forget the amazing scenes when we drove through Edinburgh after that Hampden victory. The fans came out in their thousands to welcome us in our open-topped bus.' Hearts' last final was ten years earlier, when Rangers beat them 3-1 and Derek Johnstone scored after 42 seconds; Hearts manager Alex MacDonald played for Rangers that day and scored, and Sandy Jardine was also in action for the Ibrox club as a second-half substitute.
