The two have monopolised the competition since Skol Lager began their association with the League in 1984, and both have indicated their ambitions by signing top-class players from clubs throughout Britain. Aggregate attendance for the 37 ties this season will exceed 375,000, a rise of more than 20 per cent; 127 goals came from 36 ties, an average of 3.5 a game, with GBP12,665 paid out in incentives. This is the third occasion on which Rangers and Aberdeen have contested this final, the Ibrox club having won both previous encounters.
