'Up Front' from Ian Porterfield: very disappointing memories of St Mirren from last season, when they beat the Dons 1-0 home and away at a time when Aberdeen were still in with a chance of the Championship. They stopped the unbeaten league run at Love Street towards the end of February — a bad performance and a bad mistake that cost a goal — and a few weeks later came to Pittodrie and won through a freak goal, a bizarre high ball carried into the roof of the net by the wind, one of the craziest he ever saw. The last two league results, as distinct from the Skol Cup, were disappointing: two weeks earlier against Dundee United the Dons led and seemed to be controlling the game but sat back and were pegged to a draw; last Saturday brought a 2-2 draw at Falkirk after going two bad goals down, a mix-up between two players for the first and a corner Jim Leighton came for and did not get for the second. It was redeemed in the last twenty-five minutes by taking Gary Hackett off, putting Willie Falconer on and pushing John Hewitt to the left and Joe Miller to the right — Falconer scoring the first and Miller bringing the ball down beautifully after a corner to crack in a great goal.
