There was a lot at stake that night - the young pretenders, keen to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with, against a full-strength Aberdeen side that had won almost every conceivable trophy and was being called, alongside Dundee United, the New Firm; few would have given the lowly Pars any chance, and the win that followed gave the club the inspiration and the new-found faith it needed. Aberdeen, now managed by Fifer Ian Porterfield, have successfully regrouped since the sudden departure of Alex Ferguson for pastures new at Old Trafford, and remain one of the most talented and talent-packed outfits in the country.
