The sponsor's message, by EDDIE MURPHY of Ford Ireland, contains the best story in the programme — how Shelbourne got here at all: 'After starting with a hard earned win away to an impressive Greystones side in the third round they subsequently lost 3-2 to Sheriff YC knocking them out of the competition. However, they were reinstated by the FAI and awarded a 3-0 victory after Sheriff YC were found to have fielded an ineligible player. With renewed hope and vigour they overcame a tough Limerick side 4-3 in the quarter finals... There was no stopping Shels though and after conceding an early goal they turned in an excellent display to beat St Pat's 3-1.' He also recalls the previous year's final: 'the largest attendance for a domestic game since 1968, drawing in a crowd of 36,101... Sligo kept their nerve to edge Shamrock Rovers 2-0 in the shootout, with Sligo goalkeeper CIARAN KELLY saving an incredible four penalties.'

FAI PRESIDENT PADDY McCAUL writes with the senior side about to play Estonia in the Euro 2012 play-off, notes SHAMROCK ROVERS reaching the Europa League group stages under MICHAEL O'NEILL, and defends the Association's ticket pricing: 'the family-oriented pricing structure of €10 for adults and €5 for children worked extremely well on the day... We want the FAI Ford Cup Final to be a celebration of football in this country.'
