Finn Harps reached the FAI CUP FINAL that year, so this is a tie on the road to it. Editor Joe Doherty sets the stakes: the winners go to Galway United in the 'élite' televised semi-final for a place in the final at Tolka Park, and Harps supporters 'can rightly say they have travelled the length and breadth of Ireland in this season's competition as they have already played games in Kilkenny, Cork, Dublin and now hopefully Galway' — having replayed all three rounds so far. He notes it usually takes five games to win the Cup, and this is Harps' sixth.
