Ivan Goncharov's Fregat "Pallada", the cycle of travel sketches from his 1852-1855 voyage on the frigate Pallada as secretary to Admiral Putyatin, head of the naval and diplomatic expedition to Japan: from Kronstadt round the Cape of Good Hope to Singapore, Hong Kong and the Bonin Islands, the Russians in Japan at Nagasaki, Shanghai, the Ryukyu Islands, Manila, the shores of Siberia and the overland return through Yakutsk to Irkutsk, with the later chapter 'Twenty Years After'. Both volumes complete in one book. Text in Russian. This 1976 edition from the Moscow publisher Sovetskaia Rossiia prints the text and notes from the 1952 Goslitizdat collected works, with an afterword by E. A. Krasnoshchekova on Fregat "Pallada" in Goncharov's work and design by N. I. Krylov. 608 pages, hardcover with gilt-stamped title on the front board, format 60x90/16. Print run 400,000 (first batch 1-100,000).
