The clár for the weekend: on Friday 5th June at 8.00pm the official opening of the Martin Codd Indoor Hurling Arena by the Most Reverend Denis Brennan D.D., Bishop of Ferns, and An tUachtarán C.L.G. Mr Christy Cooney, with the unveiling of a portrait of Martin Codd by his wife Kitty Codd, preceded by an exhibition of indoor hurling skills by the Rathnure minor team and an exhibition of photographs and artefacts in the Syl Barron Room featuring the great Wexford and Rathnure teams of the past. On Saturday 6th June, an intermediate hurling challenge, Rathnure v Youghal. On Sunday 7th June, a senior hurling challenge between Rathnure St Anne's and Shamrocks Ballyhale, followed by the county senior hurling challenge, Wexford v Clare. Martin Codd's dream was that one day the club would have a facility to improve every aspect of the game of hurling; a development committee was formed in 2004 and delivered the building over four years. Gearóid Ó Dúill, Cathaoirleach of Coiste Chontae Loch Garman, writes in Irish of the era of the Rackard brothers, Jim English and Martin Codd, which made Rathnure a household name in Ireland, and of the drive of Syl Barron, followed by the brilliant displays of the Quigleys, the O'Connors and the Conrans.
